Most B2B teams with a limited budget face the same choice: start with Google Ads or LinkedIn Ads? Both can work. They do different jobs, and the right first channel depends on how your buyers behave.
The core difference
Google Ads captures demand that already exists. Someone types a problem or a product category into Google, and your ad answers it. Intent is high, but you can only reach people who are searching right now.
LinkedIn Ads creates and shapes demand. You choose who sees the ad by job function, seniority, company size, industry or a list of target accounts. You reach the buying committee before they search, but most of them are not ready to talk yet.

Start with Google Ads when
- People already search for what you sell, in words you can bid on.
- Your offer can convert on the first visit: a demo, a quote, a consultation.
- You need leads in weeks, not quarters.
- Your deal size is moderate and you need a lower cost per click.
Start with LinkedIn Ads when
- Your category is new or people do not search for it yet.
- Your buyers are a narrow, well-defined group, such as a list of target accounts.
- Your deal size is large enough to justify higher click costs.
- You have an offer for people who are not ready for a sales call: a guide, a benchmark, an audit, a webinar.
What usually goes wrong
On Google
Broad match and Performance Max spending on irrelevant searches or on your own brand name, conversions that count page views instead of qualified leads, and every campaign pointing at the home page.
On LinkedIn
Audiences built on job titles alone, demo requests as the only offer, and Lead Gen Form leads that sit untouched for days.
The answer for most teams: one channel first, done properly

Pick the channel that matches your buyers, fix tracking first, and give it enough budget and time to learn. Once it works and lead quality flows back from your CRM, add the second channel. Running both from the same target list later lets LinkedIn warm up the accounts that Google then captures.
Our Lead Starter plan runs one channel, Google Ads or LinkedIn Ads, for a fixed $1,415 a month. Not sure which one fits? The free Growth Snapshot answers that question for your market.
